Invicta Watches

Many luxury Swiss watches are unique in the way they look with gold bevels or sapphire dials. These craftsmanship intricacies are nearly priceless, and many people take great pride in owning an authentic timepiece.

These luxury watches have provided a way for many people to showcase their social status and importance through a simple accessory, yet there are many who are unable to afford such a beautiful timepiece.

Invicta offers a truly one-of-a-kind experience in the watch collector world, offering these luxury Swiss-made styles and designs to the average working man that would have once been barred by price. These styles are manufactured with care and utility in mind, with materials that help reduce wear on the timepiece.

Invicta watches make a perfect gift, especially since the brand produces luxury designs that run a fraction of the cost of their luxury counterparts. My Gift Stop is the top source for watches and other gifts, including Invicta brand styles.

Who Makes Invicta Watches?

The Invicta Watch Group makes all the watch lines in their catalog; however, all of the parts manufacturing and movement production is outsourced.

While many luxury brands will make their parts in house, Invicta’s low retail price prevents them from being able to manage their production facility within the United States and still offer the same designs for such low costs.

Most Invicta parts are manufactured and assembled in either Japan or China depending on the particular watch. All movements are made by other companies’ in-house production teams, such as Seiko and Miyota.

While they do outsource their production and manufacturing, Invicta is responsible for designing and making every watch in their catalog. Services and support technicians are also managed by Invicta at their Florida headquarters.

Is Invicta Owned By Rolex?

No, Invicta is not owned by Rolex. The two companies are completely separate entities and have no affiliation with each other.

Many people began to wonder whether Invicta was owned by Rolex because of how smoothly and accurately they portrayed some of the Rolex-inspired designs and styles. These homages to the watchmaking brand are not uncommon, as many watch designers take inspiration from the Swiss-English company.

Invicta is a separate company from all other watchmaking brands and is not owned by any larger company or shareholder. The brand is headquartered in Hollywood, Florida under the name Invicta Watch Group.

The History of Invicta Watches

Invicta was originally founded in 1837 by a Swiss man, Raphael Picard. This watchmaking company, headquartered in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, continued its operation for nearly four decades, creating beautiful designs with authentic Swiss materials.

Unfortunately, between 1974 and 1982, the Swiss quartz crisis put thousands of Swiss watchmakers out of business. It was during this period that watchmakers were adapting to new technology, moving from mechanical components such as gears and springs to quartz components with batteries and crystal. Watchmakers who were unable to adapt, or unable to make a profit during this transitory period, simply went out of business.

By the end of the Swiss quartz crisis, roughly 600 of the 1,600 watchmakers remained in business. Invicta was, unfortunately, one of the 1,000 watchmakers that went out of business during those eight years.

The Invicta company folded, liquidating all of their assets and now defunct. The brand name went back onto the market. The company did not have any assets to speak of but being a Swiss watchmaking brand that had been in business for more than 100 years, the brand name still held a strong reputation.

In 1991, the Invicta brand name was purchased by an American company. This company, headquartered in Hollywood, Florida, was an independent purchase from a separate company entity, though there are unsubstantiated claims that the purchase was made by the descendants of the original brand. The company incorporated and consolidated as the Invicta Watch Group in 1996, continuing the Invicta name in the world of watchmaking.

Invicta Watches Today

Today, Invicta is known for supplying the working man with affordable luxury watches. The brand is no longer a Swiss company, but they do a fine job of making their watches look like they were made in Switzerland, nonetheless.

The company does produce some Swiss Made lines, such as the Pro Diver, which means the watch must have at least half of its value added in Switzerland. Unfortunately, these watch lines are not as inexpensive as the others, but their quality makes up for the cost.

As an attempt to stand out in their unique way beyond this luxury timepiece persona, Invicta has also begun coming up with the own unique, futuristic designs. The brand has also partnered with notable companies, such as DC Comics, Disney, Marvel, NFL, and Star Wars to come out with custom-tailored watch designs for these partner brands.

In terms of functionality, they might not have the full feature list of some more popular brands, but they are perfectly serviceable timepieces. Most of the Invicta watches are water-resistant, with their Pro Diver line being water-resistant up to 650 feet below the surface. Almost every watch by Invicta features a fire fusion crystal to resist scratching and a Japanese quartz mechanism.

Invicta is said to have been the first to begin the trend of oversized watches as statement pieces. Because of the increased size of the watch, the timepieces draw the eyes and the bold designs and luxury style strongly accentuate and improves the overall flow of the wearer’s clothing. Any brand that can come back from the Swiss quartz crisis as a new American brand and then solidify a new fashion trend deserves a second look.

Is Invicta a Luxury Watch?

Invicta is known for mimicking the luxury watch style, however, they are not among the ranks of the luxury watch brands themselves. Their Pro Diver line is the only current series containing styles able to be labeled Swiss made and is among their most precious quality watches produced.

While there is no official definition for what makes a luxury watch, luxury timepieces are often considered as such if they are made with high-quality materials and made with pristine craftsmanship. Mass-produced watches that are not made with the finest materials available are not considered luxury timepieces.

The company has continued the legacy of the original Invicta brand name by making watches that are available to the general public, rather than closing off their product line to only collectors or luxury timepiece buyers.

Invicta watches have been kindly dubbed “affordable luxury watches” which, while that might seem contradictory, is because they mimic many of the styles of luxury watches without the same high-end materials, allowing them to produce designs with gold plating and synthetic sapphire, rather than the real thing, but the overall value provided is still amazing.

For most of their watches, the difference is not in the look but their price tag. Most Invicta watches, even their Pro Diver series, are made to be an affordable alternative to many other pricey luxury brands while still maintaining a reasonable functionality. The Invicta Watch Group achieves this by outsourcing their manufacturing and procuring movement pieces from other brands such as ETA, Seiko, and Miyota, whom all make reliable movements used by many watch brands around the world.

Just because these parts are manufactured and mass-produced, however, does not mean that Invicta is a poor brand to purchase. Especially as a gift, Invicta continues to produce reliable and beautiful timepieces that anyone is certain to appreciate.

Best Invicta Watch Lines

Invicta produces a wide variety of watches with different functionality and purpose. While they are still producing many unique designs and product lines that capture the imagination, the company is known for producing timepieces that mimick the overall look of a classic luxury watch.

At My Gift Stop, we believe that a good watch should function well and look good at the same time. After all, if you received a gift that didn’t look good, you wouldn’t wear it. Below are some of the best Invicta watch lines that achieve both functional simplicity and aesthetic elegance.

The Pro Diver line is considered Invicta’s flagship line, and contains current Swiss made styles from the brand. This is the product line that receives the most attention from consumers and is known for being one of their best watch lines in functionality as well. Made for professional divers, the Pro Diver series is water-resistant up to 650 feet and features the same fire fusion crystal that makes it scratch resistant as well.

The Angel Lady line is the perfect watch series that is made for women. This collection provides precision functionality and ethereal beauty, with many watches featuring a mix of metal and resin throughout the bands and dials. The dials are made from a variety of stones such as mother of pearl, giving each watch a beauty that cannot be replaced.

The Speedway Collection is a classic that is known for its sophistication with timekeeping while still maintaining a stylish look. This collection is excellent for both men and women and features elegant colors and designs. Many of the popular watches in this line are famous for their unusually square-shaped dial, however, many of their earlier production pieces in the Speedway collection use the more familiar circular dial and feature smaller band sizes than most other lines.

Are Invicta Watches Good Quality?

Yes, most Invicta watches are considered good for those who want a simple, functional timepiece that is expected to last several years with good maintenance and care. Invicta typically attracts markets in the general public, not in the serious watch collector and luxury timepiece buyer.

Invicta watches are overall good quality for their price, making them a great gift for someone who is looking for the look of a luxury timepiece without the desire to purchase an expensive luxury brand.

These watches can reliably last many years given the right maintenance. With regular winding, they maintain a reliable time. Each watch made by Invicta uses affordable quality materials to mimic the overall look of luxury designs, however, these materials are tempered to help resist everyday wear.

Invicta’s foresight in using fire fusion crystal helps prevent scratches from light wear and helps the wearer maintain a look of professionalism and importance despite what their work conditions might bring. Every watch made by Invicta is water-resistant to a certain depth, with their Pro Diver line advertised as water-resistant up to 650 feet, suitable for individuals who work near the water or in high humidity.

Each timepiece made by Invicta is serviceable as an accessory piece, as all the Invicta designs are done well whether they are original makes or inspired by other timepieces. The discerning buyer who wants both style and functionality will want to look for an Invicta watch that uses a movement that they are familiar with.

Invicta purchases their movements from other brands to help cut production costs. In turn, this helps reduce the retail price, passing the manufacturing savings on directly to the consumer.

What Movements Do Invicta Watches Use?

Invicta watches use different movements depending on the watch, but most of the lower-priced watches will typically be powered by Japanese quartz movements. These movements are outsourced from other companies such as Miyota and Seiko, Eta, and other watch brands that make their movements in house.

While the company uses a variety of movements in their timepieces, there are many that are known to be good timepieces with solid movements inside. By purchasing a timepiece with one of these movements, you can help reduce any downtime between ticks.

  • Selita SW200
  • ETA 2824-2
  • Seiko NH25
  • Ronda
  • ISA
  • Miyota 8215

These movements are found in several watches, such as their Pro Diver series, 9210, 8926, and others across their production line. Invicta does not make their movements in house because the cost of production would significantly drive up the retail price, removing Invicta from the market of supplying luxury designs to the general public.

Overall, Invicta watches use movements that are relatively inexpensive to procure from other brands that manufacture their movements in-house. Some Invicta watches use Swiss movements, including select styles from their prized Pro Diver line.

The Invicta Pro Diver series has many Swiss Made watches featuring water resistance up to 650 feet. These watches are considered their flagship product line and the most attention and quality control typically go into these watches as they are meant for professional divers who are looking for a higher quality standard to help them keep time.

What Makes Invicta Watches High Quality?

Invicta produces several lines of watches with various parts. Their budget lines, typically retailing for under $400, are watches that are prized for their look and utilitarian functionality but don’t expect any extra bells and whistles.

When purchasing Invicta watches, you should expect the watch to last for several years when given the proper maintenance and care, however, it will not last for the same amount of time as a luxury Swiss-made timepiece. That should be expected considering they only cost a small fraction of what the luxury Swiss-made timepieces cost.

These timepieces are beautiful and functional. They will serve their purpose well as a stylish way to tell time and are better protected against general wear and tear than some other brands in the same price range. The Invicta watches that are Swiss-made, such as those in their Pro Diver range, are of better quality but the price tag is heftier to match.

Overall, Invicta watches are not prized for their high-quality parts; however, these parts are manufactured with utility and design in mind.

Invicta watches are made to be scratch and water-resistant and outsource their mechanisms to other watchmakers who are known for their mid-to-high tier mechanisms. Outsourcing these parts and the manufacturing process allows Invicta to pass on the savings of their watches to the general public.

Are Invicta Watches Swiss?

No, chances are, if you are purchasing an inexpensive watch, your Invicta watch is not Swiss made. At least, modern Invicta watches, save for the Pro Diver series, are not Swiss-made watches. These watches are made by an American company that outsources most of its parts and materials from other countries.

The Pro Diver series is made in Switzerland and a part of Invicta’s “Swiss Made” brand, which means the watch must have at least 50% of its total value added in Switzerland.

There is one caveat with this, however: any Invicta watches from before the Swiss quartz crisis, which occurred between 1970 and 1983, were Swiss-made watches. The reason this distinction exists is that the original Invicta company was founded in Switzerland and later after the company failed due to the quartz crisis, the name was sold to an American company that continued making watches.

This Swiss-turned-American company now operates the corporate headquarters of the Invicta Watch Group in Hollywood, Florida. The company makes watches under the Invicta brand, which has become popular for mimicking Swiss luxury brand styles with cheaper components and manufacturing practices to make these sought-after styles available to the modern working man.

Most Invicta components are now made with Japanese quartz and movements made by other popular brands. Most manufacturing is done in China and Japan, with almost no manufacturing done in house, so it would be more accurate to state that Invicta has moved away from Swiss-made watchmaking with its original closure in the late 1900s to Japan made and China made watchmaking with its reopening in America.

Where Are Invicta Watches Made?

Most watch parts that are not a part of a luxury series are made in China. For watchmaking companies, having parts made overseas helps save production costs and enables them to produce more timepieces with quality parts than if they were to make the parts in house.

Most Invicta watches are made outside of the U.S., despite their headquarters in Florida. These parts are made in either Japan or China, depending on the particular watch.

Invicta’s movements are not made in house either, as they outsource from other companies like Seiko and Miyota, who do make their movements in house.

These outsourced movements are still perfectly functional, however, by purchasing movements from these companies, Invicta can still produce the same luxury brand styles and designs they are known for, but for a smaller budget overall.

These savings are passed onto the consumer as their retail price is much lower than true luxury brands.

Swiss-made Invicta watches must have at least 50% of their value added in Switzerland, and so they are often made entirely in Switzerland. These watches, if dated before the Swiss quartz crisis, were not made by the same Invicta Watch Group that is headquartered in Florida; these watches would be made by the true Swiss company, who failed due to the crisis and later sold the name to an American company that currently operates as Invicta.
